(2.7a) Common Multiples

Before we learn what is common multiple, lets refresh your knowledge about multiples.
Multiples of 4 are the product of 4 and another non-zero whole number. (4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 32, 36, ...)

Ok..now lets continue with our next lesson.

 Do you notice that the list of common multiples is a sequence of number? Do you remember what is number sequence? Yes.. A list of numbers that are arranged according a certain pattern or order. Look at the example above, the common multiples of 3 and 4 are 12, 24, 36, ...
So, can you list the first five common multiples of 3 and 4?
12, 24, 36, 48, 60
12 (1x12), 24, (2x12), 36 (3x12), 48 (4x12), 60 (5x12)

 Now, find the first five common multiples of 4, 6 and 8.
Do you get this answer?
24, 48, 72, 96, 120

In order to determine whether 72 is a common multiple of 3 and 4, 72 dividing with 3 and 4. If 72 divisible with these two numbers, means that 72 is a common multiple of 3 and 4. If not divisible with either one number, means that it is not a common multiple of the given numbers.
